“The Moat, Breccles” a signed 1921 oil painting by Winston Churchill will be presented for auction at New York auction Phillips on June 23.
Its price estimation by Phillips is $1.5 million to $2 million.
Churchill had kept the paintings safe for forty years. Before, four years of his death in 1961, he offered the paintings to his friend. His friend was the Greek shipping magnate Aristottle Onassis. He hung it as a honor behind the bar of his super yacht.
The painting of Churchill was owned by Onassis family.
The super yacht was named “Christina” in the name of Onassis’s daughter, who was a former Canadian navy frigate 100 m long approximately.
In 1975, Onassis died after seven years of his marriage to Jackie Kennedy. The yacht was sold and everything of the yacht was placed in storage.
