The 2021 Nobel Prize Winner

The 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah for his “uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in gulf between cultures and continents.”

Abdulrazak was born in Tanzania in 1948. He moved to England at a young age in 1960’s. He has written ten novels and short stories as well.

His novel “Paradise” tells the story of a boy who had grown up in Tanzania in early 20th century had won the Booker Prize.

His 2001 book “By the Sea” is about a refugee’s life in a British town in coastal regions.

Gurnah, 73, had been a professor of English and Postcolonial Literature at the University of Kent in England.
