$1.8 Million Italian Plate

A 16th century Italian plate having paintings of Samson and Delilah was discovered. It has sold at an auction for $1.8 million.

The plate is 28cm in diameter. It is believed that it was made by Nicola da Urbino around 1520-23.

The Italian earthenware was expected to sell between $110,000 and $160,000 but ended up with the price of $1,800,000 during an online auction on Wednesday.

The online event was flooded with bids from buyers via phone and email.

This artifact was one of 500 items listed for auction in Lowood House, in borders of Scotland. Lots of pictures, books, furniture etc. were featured in the event run by British auctioneers Lyon and Turnbull.

It was discovered as rare piece of genuine quality.

The atmosphere during the auction was full of enthusiasm.
